Fire Emblem If special edition unboxing

$

Kitaaaaaキタ━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━!! It's finally arrived!

I had to pay double for the special edition since the bloody preorders sold out two months ago.

Only problem is I'm in the middle of playing Utawaremono which is taking longer than expected and Aruruu is the best fake JRPG daughter ever.

Fire Emblem cards. Meh.

Probably the scene where you have to choose which side.

The main reason I wanted the special edition is that I wanted both games in one catridge instead of having only one and having to download the other. The bad thing about Nintendo hardware is if my 3DS or WiiU dies, I lose my digital downloads unless I can get Nintendo Japan to fix it for me.

I'm not a Fire Emblem fan but this is the strategy RPG with the biggest budget and I'm a fan of the genre. Hope its better than Kakusei which I can't remember anything about except magic was too strong.

Why would anyone want to choose the Byakuya oukoku route first? Apparently its easier so I kind of have to play it first. At least I now know who I'm going to pair with during the second story.

The two imouto characters. Still prefer the anya oukoku designs.

Parasyte: Part 1

I went into this with super low expectations. I had watched the anime some time ago and found it fun but not absolutely must watch. Kiseiju (Parastye) is basically your teenager gets super powers story except its darker, people die and it explores some interesting questions.

In the beginning of the movie, I wasn't really happy with it. It felt like they were rushing through the story beats from the anime. However I kept watching and I thought they did a pretty bang up job adapting the various action scenes from the anime with the budget that they had. Nothing looked too dodgy and I can't believe this is the same director who did the abomination Yamato.

This movie needed an extra 15 minutes to let the Shometani Shota and Hashimoto Ai's characters breath.   You got to make your audience care about the characters before you put them in danger. The movie introduced the art class scenes in order to expand on the main character's relationship with Hashimoto Ai and his mom but it just felt inadequate.

However, if the director and writer had no choice but to limit themselves to an hour and 45 minutes, then I don't think they could have done much better cause they had to fit so much in and there wasn't any action scenes they could get rid of or join together.

I'm actually quite eager to see how they did certain scenes in Part 2. I really like Fukatsu Eri as the teacher. She is the only person in the movie who the audience really gets to know slowly. Keep your expectations low and you might enjoy this movie.

Tenshi no Knife Episode 1

One day, Cafe Manager's wife is killed at home with a knife but luckily baby was unharmed. Wife had multiple defensive wounds on her body trying to protect the baby.

Luckily the mother in law is hot. For some reason I got Mayumi Wakamura mixed up with the Neko Samurai lady and it took me until episode 3 to realise it.

Kurashina Kana turns up at the funeral as the deceased wife's old friend and somehow he hasn't heard of her. I'd say things are looking up for Cafe Manager.

Turns out the killers were 3 middle school kids so they can't be tried as adults. Cafe Manager's life becomes hell with press harassing him and random phone calls crazy people. The juvenile system is more about protecting the criminals and reforming them than about the victims, yada yada yada.

Cafe Manager then says he wants to kill the 3 kids which somehow makes people graffiti his coffee shop and throw eggs at him. Hello, the dude's wife was killed and the killers are kept hidden and will not be put in jail. Sometimes, things in Japanese doramas makes me wonder but there are always things in Japan that never make sense like Japanese not taking their coats off despite it being hot inside trains.

Four years later, Cafe Manager is enjoying life with hot mother in law and Kurashina Kana who works at the child car facility when they find out the identity of the killers. However, one of the killers ends up dead in a park near the cafe.

Cafe Manager goes to juvenile facility to learn more about dead killer. Finds out that the guy played basketball and teachers defend him cause he broke down when he was in charge of a new juvenile who's parents had tied when she was young.

Cafe Manager is one his way back when he is attacked by youths and the girlfriend of the dead killer turns up with a baseball bat to take revenge.

SUMMARY

Interesting first episode but I'm not feeling the acting. I'm glad no one is really overacting except maybe the creepy cop but something feels a bit off. Despite the heavy subject matter, there's no scene so far where the tension and pain is so real I can feel it through the screen ala Soredemo Ikite Yuku. Hope it gets better.

Tenshi no Knife Eps 2-5

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our third must watch jdorama of the year after Kageri Yuki Natsu and Yami no Bansosha! Its sad that none have been subbed maybe Tenshi no Knife will be seeing as its got Nogizaka 46 girls although Yami no Bansosha deserves to be subbed the most. After episode 2 I could not stop watching because every episode ended with a goddamn exciting cliffhanger.

Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way; the acting is not very good. Koide Keisuke is no Koizumi Kotaro. Koide Keisuke does an ok job but there are some scenes that are just bad and I couldn't keep comparing his acting with Koizumi Kotaro's in Namonaki Doku because the roles are very similar. Koizumi Kotaro does a much better job showing  repressed frustration and fiery anger.

That being said, the story is effing awesome. Its a cross between Soredemo Ikite Yuku and Petero no Souretsu with your everyman trying to do the right thing caught in a unusual and complicated mystery suspense about juvenile crime and atonement. Do juveniles deserve to be treated less harshly than adults just because they can be reformed? Is protecting juveniles more important than keeping the victim's families from getting any closure? Tenshi no Knife asks explores a lot of questions but never gets too preachy.

Not is all bad in the acting front. Kurashina Kana does a great job, especially in the flashback scenes playing a 15 year old. Usually when an actor plays a much younger character they keep it short and don't try hard cause its not convincing but she really gave it her all in this. I guess she had to cause it such a long and pivotal flashback.

If the acting were really good, Tenshi no Knife could have been a Lady Joker. I hate to see idoru casting when supporting parts turn out to be very important. Surely WOWOW didn't have to do it to finance a dorama with a script this good? That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, maybe more than I should have and wouldn't mind rewatching it. Must watch. If you've got basic Japanese, give it a go. The most important word to know in Tenshi no Knife is kousei 更生 which means rehabilitation.

Neko Zamurai 2 Eps 7-11

The movie was basically a poor rehash of the first season and the second season felt the same but I kept watching Neko Zamurai cause it was 20 minutes per episode.

The series really picked up for me in episode 7 with the story about the fencing dojo and episode 8 was the funniest with the body swap.

The last three episodes switch to a higher gear with Tamanojo being targeted and the mother in law visiting.

I hope this is the last we see of Madarame because there are only so many ways to skin a cat.

LUNCH NO AKKO-CHANSUBBING

Looks like Lunch no Akko-chan is being subbed. Its a fun feel good life lesson series with Renbutsu Misako and Mano Erina. Don't go in expecting too much and you'll have a fun time. The only negative thing I can say is that potafu doesn't look delicious at all. On the other hand, the dry curry looks so good.

RIP IWATA SATORU

The video game industry lost another one of its giants. It was weird watching the last Nintendo direct before E3 without Iwata-san.

Renai Jidai Eps 1-2

Renai Jidai is a boring show about a divorced couple trying to set each other up with their next partner starring the anorexic nurse from Doctors and Mitsushima Hikari's brother. Yup, I never knew she had a brother until I looked up the wiki.

Renai Jidai is neither funny nor witty or entertaining. It just exists as a show where characters speak about ideals of love and marriage. Anyway, I stayed until the end of episode 2 because I wanted to see what the cause of the divorce was (ho-hum. Could have been good but I didn't care about the characters) and I was playing Fire Emblem If while watching.

Stay away. Don't even try it unless you have trouble sleeping.

18 HOURS TO GO ON SHENMUE KICKSTARTER

That music is still so good after so many years.

Approaching 5.5 million. Hopefully they get a crazy influx at the last minute. I've already pledged $175. Would love to be an NPC in the game but not at that cost. I can't believe its coming in 2 or 3 years. I just have to fix my Dreamcasts or get another one and replay both games before then.

Death Note

$

0

So I went in to the new jdorama with no expectations. They start Light off as more of a regular guy instead of the proud asshole of a genius in the movies. The new dorama does not establish that he is a genius except the comment by his employer that he is very quick at calculations or something.

Changes I can take as long as they lead to something interesting. However the new L is, not interesting and seems more of an asshole compared to the original. The two things that really bugged me were that the Death Note dorama looks pretty 'cheap' and that scene where the police officer over explained Light's father's motivation. Seriously, why not let the audience put 2 and 2 together? Anytime I run into overt exposition, it tells me the writer is shit.

Anyway as I was watching the first two episodes of the series, the thought at the back of my mind was why am I watching this when I could be watching the movies. So I popped in the 2006 movie and oh boy, I never realised that Mitsushima Hikari was Light's sister.

I forgot how much I enjoyed watching this unapologetic bad guy as the main character.

I was too crazy about Toda Erika at that time to notice......

... but you can't really blame me, right?

The casting in the movies is so much superior,

and let's not forget Katase Nana (Ushijima-kun).

Why watch the dorama when you can rewatch the much better movies?

Risk no Kamisama Episode 1

$

0

Toda Erika is a young executive at Sunrise, a huge company that does everything like Sony etc. She is in charge of the development of this super long lasting battery. Like a WOWOW dorama, something goes wrong with the battery and the God of Risk, Tsutsumi Shinichi gets involved.

First off, the first thing that made me go WTF was casting Toda Erika as a young executive. I thought they should have at least cast someone who looks 30 something. Luckily, her age is a big part of her character so that's cool. Thank the jdorama gods they did not cast Ueto Aya in this.

The talent in Risk no Kamisama is pretty good with Furuta Arata and Yamaguchi Sayaka. I like the concept of this show; a high flying executive who is way too young and naive not works in risk management and has to clean up other people's problems.

There's also the issue of company politics with the bad guy from Moteki in one corner and Kita Yoshio as always in the other. (Can they please cast someone else as the smiling, good guy puppet master besides Kita Yoshio. Not saying he's bad but there must be other actors out there. How about Toyohara Kosuke, Mr Lan Evo from Densha?)

Really promising first episode. Risk no Kamisama feels like a WOWOW show with a getsu 9 budget. Let's see how many interesting stories they can get out of Sunrise creating defective products. Thanks to shikashitsuji for subbing ep 1!

Shi no Zouki Episode 1

$

0

I was really looking forward to this cause its got 3 of my favourite actors; Koizumi Kotaro, Toyohara Kosuke aka Mr Lan Evo and Konishi Manami. So a body of a young woman is found by Koizumi Kotaro in a forest where people go commit suicide and her liver has been removed.

Mr Lan Evo is the cop who orders an autopsy on the body. Two people were injured during a scuffle and taken to a hospital where it is discovered that they were liver donor and patient. Kinpachi sensei is the doctor suspected of doing the operation.

The last story thread is that Koizumi Kotaro wrote an article about a young girl who was confined by her stalker which resulted in the girl committing suicide and him getting blamed. Yep, Japan loves blaming everyone else but the criminal.

To be honest, the first episode is pretty boring. It looks great but every revelation just makes me go "......and?". Hopefully it gets interesting for episode 2.

Risk Kikitaisaku no Kamisama Ep 2

$
0
0

Risk no Kamisama Episode 2 didn't lose me with a story that had nothing to do with risk.

Risk no Kamisama didn't lose me with the poor attempt at a corporate blackmail story that's not even 1/10th as exciting as Lady Joker.

Risk no Kamisama didn't lose me with the cartoonish villain boss that gave me flashbacks to Hanzawa Naoki.

Risk no Kamisama didn't lose me with a story about people who still had jobs whinging about being made to do menial tasks. They should have been looking for new jobs while they still had a place to stay and salary coming in. What is it with jdoramas and blaming other people for inconveniences?

Risk no Kamisama really lost me when Tsutsumi Shinichi started blaming the President of Toyokawa foods for choosing meek employees and somehow linking it with the blackmail problem. The 'cool action' music made it even worse. WTF.

Is this the same writer who wrote Unmei no Hito and Untouchable? Why do mainstream jdoramas have to dumb things down to the point of stupidity? Its as if the Fuji TV mandated a villain be in the story and we have downtrodden survivors of a company downsizing.

FIRE EMBLEM IF : BYAKUYA OUKOKU

I fucking hate moe. Its brought us K-on but ruined JRPGs forever. Fire Emblem if should have been called Fantasy Marriage Simulation. Not only is the story, at least for Byakuya Oukoku (White Night Kindgom) so freaking boring, there is no character development and every conversation is basically moe tropes that have nothing to do with the story.

At least Stella Glow limited access to conversations until you reached a certain stage because the tuning/dating had something to do with the story. Let's not mention you as the commander calling your troops into your abode so you can molest them with your 3DS touch pen and somehow all of them like it.

Did I mention its a war story but really its about how everyone likes the main character because he or she is so nice or how the kids who magically grow up into teenagers in an instant bit is shoehorned into the game for whatever reason. (At least it fucking made sense in Awakening with the time travel) I married Akua but the relationship with her in the main story is more like a comrade. I'm never buying another Fire Emblem game ever again. Fire Emblem If makes Stella Glow look like Shining Force. Fuck moe.

Oh yeah, I'm now playing through Anya Oukoku (Black Night Kingdom) and Nintendo is basically using all the assets from the first story. Seriously, the only effort they've done is come up with stupid boring conversation between all the characters. Sigh.

UTAWARERUMONO PORTABLE

A remastered hentai strategy RPG for the PSP which is more like a visual novel with some easy strategy elements. Actually, it feels very much like listening to a radio play with minimal visuals. Most surprisingly, the story is pretty good and the characters very memorable. It made me really excited for the sequel coming out soon.

Until the science fiction twist that killed the story for me. It works for stuff like Grandia 2 cause the twist was awesome but in Utawarerumono it feels like a twist for the sake of a twist. I enjoyed the warring kingdoms and Hakuoro having to make difficult decisions.

I was so hyped and was going to preorder the collector's edition of Itsuwari no Kamen until the twist. I'll probably get Itsuwari no Kamen just for the characters from the first game.

Enka ~ Gold Rush ~ Episode 1

$

A WOWOW dorama that doesn't feature a cop, reporter and politician as the main characters? Colour me interested. Moriyama Mirai plays an  temporary art teacher named Kumagai.

At the beginning of the episode, he has to go on patrol to catch any students loafing around the city at night along with another teacher, Oyamada.

Kumagai and Naoko are invited into a blackmail scheme by Oyamada.

The plan is to blackmail the headmaster they call hedgehog (harinezumi) by videotaping him with his mistress.

They want Harinezumi to make them regular teachers and allow the female teacher Naoko to continue singing. Kuma-san is also in debt.

They catch Harinezumi in the act but the blackmail is not affective.

The teacher who came up with the plan has a second thing to blackmail Harinezumi which I'm not sure what it is.

Kumagai and Naoko leave the scene of the blackmail but are unable to contact their Oyamada and they go back to discover they may be in over their heads.

Enka ~ Gold Rush ~ is really hard to understand not because of the Kansai-ben but because they speak really fast like real Kansai-ben. I had to watch it twice to understand the dialogue. Even then, there are parts I don't really get.

It looks like Enka is going to be a dark comedy which I like and is something we don't usually see from WOWOW. I can do without any conspiracy doramas from WOWOW. bframe says episode 2 is really good so I can't wait for it to be uploaded to nyaa.

MIFF 2015 : Yakuza Apocalypse / Gokudou Daisensou

Fuck Miike Takashi. I went in with super low expectations and just wasted two hours of my time. Whatever happened to the director who made Ichi the Killer? Seriously, why cast Mad fucking Dog from the Raid if you don't even use him properly. The final 'fight' was so goddamn disappointing. Why cast Mad Dog in the movie at all if you just want him and Ichihara Hayato to stand next to each other and punch each other in the face ten times?

Why shoot the fight scenes for most of the film so up close you can't see shit? I get it for the fights with Lily Franky's character since it was all stuntman but wtf. Somehow he remembered to pull away a bit for the frog fight scene. The frog saved the movie from having no redeemable qualities.

B-movies are inherently stupid. I love Ichi. I love Versus. I love Machine Girl and all of them had a coherence and pacing to their stupidity while Yakuza Apocalypse does not. The sad thing is The sad thing is Miike could have made it pretty funny but didn't. He introduces so many stupid elements into the movie but non of them pay off.

Just repeating the line about yakuza being like vampires feeding on the katagi (civilians) does not give the movie meaning. If you have to spell the point of your movie out to your audience, what's the point of watching a (non-existant) story then? Seriously, Yakuza Apocalypse makes Tokyo Tribe look like Zebraman. Do not watch.

Jyouou 3 Special Edition Eps 1+2

Jyouou 3 has been in my hall of shame for a very, very long time.I was actually thinking about finally getting around to watching it when I found out someone had already timed the Japanese subs! Yatta! For those who don't know, Jyouou is a touching and horribly acted series about workplace bullying.

The baka shoujiki Ando Mai is back along with her two very round assets, her large eyes. She's quit the hostess business after getting second at the end of season 2.

She causes a traffic accident sending the driver to a hospital and the owner of the kyabakura Seaside who just happens to be there ends up paying her compensation to the victim and asks that Ando Mai work at his kyabakura. If Ando Mai could put 2 and 2 together, I'm sure she would have smelled some fish.

The kyabakura is run by the Komiyama siblings and the sister just happens to be a lesbian who loves threesomes.

Asuka Kirara plays Riona the number one hostess who keeps banging some lucky dude throughout the two episodes. (My bet is one curly hair)

Flashback to Ando Mai quitting her job and Kadena Reon getting pissed. Sometimes I find it very hard to concentrate on the subtitles.

Riona has her own posse and they bully poor Ando Mai and this other girl Moe. It was very hard for me to watch the girls getting sexually harrassed.

Riona and gang try to bully Moe into sleeping with one of her regulars.Ando Mai tells Moe she doesn't sleep around although she has taken so much money from these poor guys and Moe says she would do anything for money. Ando Mai says Moe should treasure herself and lots of funny things.

In the end Moe didn't sleep with the customer.

Kadeno Reon finds out about Ando Mai and is pissed. She calls the Komiyama siblings hyenas.

Its nice to see that HBO is not the only one who does sexpositions.

Turns out Moe gives all her money to her host boyfriend who also beats her up. This type of thing happens in real life and if you're interested, watch The Great Happiness Space.

Ando Mai gives a touching speech to Moe and turns Moe into her helper.

At the end of the episode we find out that Hara Saori is still alive??!!! My mind is blown and guess is twin sister. This could possibly be so bad its good, just like season 2.

MIFF 2015 : Journey to the Shore / Kishibe no Tabi

Journey to the Shore is my second Japanese movie for the Melbourne International Film Festival. This was the movie I was most looking forward to not just because Fukatsu Eri and Asano Tadanobu are in but also because Kurosawa Kiyoshi (WOWOW's Shokuzai) directed it and won best director at Cannes. I was surprised to see WOWOW films at the beginning credits.

Fukatsu Eri's husband Asano Tadanobu died 3 years ago and all of a sudden he reappears, saying that he want to take her on a journey to meet the people who have helped him. Its your basic dead person comes back to say goodbye movie with hints about their relationship and what actually happened scattered throughout.

Fukatsu Eri is very good in this one but the script is oh so generic. I have no idea how Kurosawa Kiyoshi got the directing award cause I've seen much better stuff from him. (see the first episode of Shokuzai) The movie is way too lethargic and could have used a lot of edits. Actually I think it would have been so much better as a 3 episode WOWOW dorama than a movie.

I feel like Fukatsu Eri really kept the movie from being a total bore through the force of her acting. Watching the movie I was thinking I've never put her on the top echelon of Japanese actresses but the best thing about the movie was watching her character react to various situations and reading her emotions.

As a dorama, Journey to the Shore would have been not bad but as movie, it was kind of meh and dare I say boring. The last movie for me will be Koreeda's My Little Sister. Fingers crossed. Oh yeah, Aoi Yu has a nice cameo as well.

Kamoshirenai Joyuutachi

By the jdorama gods, I haven't laughed this much since...... maybe Dandarin? This dorama special is the most fun I've had watching in a while. Not only does it have three of the best actresses in jdoramas today with Takeuchi Yuko, Maki Yoko and Mizukawa Asami, it also has a very funny script by Bakarhythm, the writer of Suteki na Sentaxi.

All 3 actresses play themselves but the story is what if none of them experienced the turning point that led them to be the actresses they are today? Like in Takeuchi Yuko's case, it was getting scouted at Harajuku and calling the agent back. So Kamoshirenai Joyuutachi is a show where they are playing themselves in an alternate reality.

Maki Yoko and Mizukawa Asami are struggling to get acting jobs and the funniest bit is when the hospital scene which I won't spoil while Takeuchi Yuko is working at a publishing firm.

The script is just freaking funny from beginning until the climax when all three meet up. When a script is good, everything just flows and feels natural. Its funny, gives you enough insight on the characters without explaining too much and keeps the story running at such a brisk pace that the one hour runtime is over way too quickly. English subs are available but its one of those livejournal member things so I just watched with Japanese subtitles.

The climax is just full on awesome. I knew what was coming but it was so fun to watch. It kind of reminded me of Kisaragi. Just a bunch of good actors in a room and lots of things happening.

Must watch and I'm looking forward to more Bakarhythm doramas. This dude knows how to write.

Absolutely must watch jdorama special.

MIFF 2015 : Our Little Sister / Umimachi Diary

$

My third and final movie from the Melbourne International Film Festival. Our Little Sister is yet another feather on Koreeda Hirokazu's (Like Father, Like Son) cap. I went for this movie for Koreeda and Kaho but its Ayase Haruka who steals the show as the oldest of 3 siblings who finds that their recently deceased father has a daughter from his second marriage being left with his widow from his third.

Ayase Haruka has the hardest job as the stoic, motherly oldest sister who is having an affair with Tsutsumi Shinichi although her family was torn apart by her father's adultry which lead to the birth of the half sister Suzu. Its nothing  we haven't seen before in jdoramas but its done with such subtlety and deft touch that I could feel every conflicted emotion on her face.

For sukebes like me, Nagasawa Masami shows a lot of skin and legs as per her contract but not having to carry the movie, she does a great job as the sexy sister who keeps getting mixed up with the wrong guys and loves alcohol. Kaho plays the youngest sister with weird interests and is mostly there for thejokes. Masami and her legs should never be asked to carry a movie/jdorama by themselves. Our Little Sister is a slow, well paced movie about sisters living together and the emotional scars they carry that barely show.

I just love Koreeda's directing. To me, he is the actors' director. He allows the actors to breath and for the moment to simmer. Never too long, never to short and always capturing every subtle change in facial expression. The camera work is absolutely striking and really makes me want to go Kamakura. The best thing about Our Little Sister is the chemistry between the sisters and that it never descends into melodrama.

I'm giving it a must watch with the catch that you've got to enjoy his brand of nothing exciting really happens. Koreeda is just interested to capture the magic of people reacting to certain situations. Sometimes its awesome like in Like Father, Like Son and sometimes its just a complete bore like I Wish. I'm glad it turned out to be the former and the crowd at the Comedy Theatre applauded at the end.

Psycho Pass the Movie

Kougami Shinya is back is Psycho Pass is back to doing Ghost in the Shell better than Arise! If I could completely erase the stupid second season from memory. I've said this before; sci-fi/zombies/genre stuff work best when exploring ideas and become allegories to stuff in the real world and the Psycho Pass movie looks like the Sybil System being used in a South East Asian country.

Some of the themes I really enjoyed in the movie were:

- A powerful country arming a warring one to spread its influence,

- Segregation of people based on their Psycho-Pass thereby creating second class citizens living in fear. Would you become a second class citizen with the promise of safety?

 - How would Sybil work in a country where lawlessness is the norm?

- Can Sybil judge those that control it?

My only complaints are the horrible English and the fighting scenes missing many animation frames. This isn't a harem anime so I can understand not having the budget. Oh yeah, and no way was Kougami in any shape to fight at the end. Did I miss the part where he is revealed to be a super human?

Fun movie for me and it washes the bad taste of season 2. Looks like this is goodbye to Kougami. The question is, where does the franchise go from here? What other ideas are there to explore. As long as Urobuchi Gen is involved, I can't wait. Entertaining for fans of the series.

Ramen Daisuki Koizumi San

What happens when you combine two of my favourite things, ramen and joshikousei into a jdorama? You get one of the most depressing shows ever, unless you happen to live in Japan.

I watched the four episodes in a go while having dinner and I just kept eating to to try to cover this hole in my heart.. eeerr stomach.

Now that is what you call real chasiu.

Ramen Daisuki Koizumi san is better than Kodoku no Gurume because it doesn't feel like a food variety show.

I've never eaten at Jiro although its been recommended to me many times. Tenkaipin, I've actually eaten but it didn't leave an impression on me.

Of the 3 girls, I think Miyama Karen is the one with the most potential.

I love the queuing episode the most. Its sort of stupid but I like Koizumi-san's principles when it comes to ramen. I don't think I've ever queued for more than one hour for ramen before.

Highly recommended 4 short episodes. Just prepared for stomach rumbling and depression.

The theme song is actually a cover of Sharan Q's Ramen Daisuki Koike-san. I much prefer the new version here.

Shingeki no Kyojin movie

First off, the dubbing is really bad. Something is very off. Maybe its the timing of the copy or just how bad the acting is.

The movie starts off with Eren falling down from a bomb. They couldn't possibly have intended for it to be funny right? Is this a kids movie or a movie about human eating giants?

Big giant attacks quickly and notice something about the canons?

So we have soldier pushing the canons 180 degrees. Maybe its to show they were unprepared? Even if there were unprepared why aim the canons at anywhere but the wall?

Notice how dark and cloudy the sky is?

I don't see no clouds here. There were so inconsistencies in that first big scene.

Fast forward two years and our heroes are on a mission to blow up the top of the wall. First thing they are told is that the kyojin are responsive to human voices. Guess what, every fucking one keeps talking along the car ride. I can accept that maybe they can't hear car engines or something but WTF?

The group runs into some cows and somehow everyone has to get out of the car. Oh yeah, they still continue to talk too. Who the fuck wrote this shit?

After some time, someone has the brains to get the convoy moving.

Stupid girl says she hears baby crying. Get in the fucking truck you bitch. WTF. I get that the soldiers may not be as well trained as the anime but isn't this like their last batch of explosives? Why entrust that to people with absolutely no common sense.

This dude somehow manages to throw a kyojin. WTF. Is this Looney Tunes? Doesn't he have one of those flying thingies? How come he never flies in the movie? Not enough budget? Has no one in the group not been trained to use the maneuver gear?

Speaking of maneuver gear,  who's idea was it to make Ishihara Satomi the overacting, try too hard to be funny character?

Why is Sakuraba Nanami using a bow when it can't do shit to the kyojin?

Forget about passing the common sense test. They absolutely got the wrong director for this. They should have gotten the guy why did the Gantz movies. Now that was a manga adaptation that new how to maximise its budget. Shingeki no Kyojin's biggest sin is inconsistency of its tone. If you want to do B grade horror, go B grade horror camp all the way and don't throw in kids stuff or try to be too serious. Oh yeah, Takeda Rina is in it but she doesn't kick any ass. Most people will check this out because we like looking at car wrecks but you're better off rereading the manga/anime.

Zainin no Uso

I gave up on this last year cause it was difficult to watch with so much legal jargon. Gave it another and managed to make it through though I'm going to do a slow rewatch.

Ito Hideaki gives his best performance I've seen as the 'evil lawyer'. Evil meaning will do anything to win which is apparently only evil if you are working for a big corporation like he is. At the beginning of the show, he manages to get this guy off for rape and murder and the parents of the victim confront him. Some stupid reporter asks him, "As a lawyers, don't you have a sense of justice?"

Good thing he replies by asking the reporter, "Do you think that every defendant who pleads innocent is guilty? What's the purpose of having lawyers then? The job of the police and prosecutors is to prove his guilt and my job is to prove his innocence and we have arrived at today's verdict."

I'm thinking, yes! Fuck this evil lawyer bullcrap. Is it the defence lawyers fault that the prosecution has a weak case? Why not cry to the prosecutors and say, "You freaking suck at your job!"

Takito Kenichi is, for the first time (that I can remember) not playing the creepy guy. He's the poor, good guy defender of justice yasui bengoshi and he plays an important role in the story and not in the black and white way. I really like his character.

Kimura Yoshino is Ito Hideaki's childhood friend now doctor. They grew up in an orphanage along with her brother.

Kimura Yoshino's brother who knows something about Ito Hideaki's past.

The casting, acting and directing is typical WOWOW good. The domacles sword hanging over Zainin no Uso is whether the script would make it a simple black and white story like many jdoramas are wont to do or have shades of grey.

The good news is, Ito Hideaki's evil lawyer is an interesting character because of his past. The bad news I really hated the karmic ending of episode 4. However, it does set up a good last episode between Hideaki and the cheap lawyer.

Yasui bengoshi is my favourite character because he does not go around brandishing words like justice and shouting at the 'villain' that he is wrong. The more he finds out about Hideaki's past, the more he understands why Hideaki sees the world as it is. The best thing was the revelation that Yasui bengoshi was supposed to defend the killer in the beginning of the show but he chickened out. If he had been braver and realised that defending people you knew were guilty is also an important part of justice, then the tragedy of episode 4 might have been avoided.

The only other thing I hate is this guy in the middle left. By the jdorama gods, why does he have to mumble all the freaking time? Its so hard to understand him!!! Arrrgrhhhh.

There's no performance here that's so outstanding as to deserve a Hamsapsukebe acting award but it deserves to either replace Black President or Kazokugari in the top five shows of 2014. Bravo to WOWOW and Zainin no Uso definitely deserves to get subbed. Must watch.
