Osaka and Kumamoto

Dancing comp neat ATC hall where the Madoka exhibition was held.

Was heading to Mitsuboshi seimenjou for noukou ramen in Osaka when I came across this new hakata ramen place nearby.

Not bad. I've stopped trying to compare every tonkotsu ramen place with my two favourites. As long as it tastes decent I'm happy.

Wow at the price of Shining Force 3 premium disk. Radiant Silvergun also costs quiet a bit.

Retro game shop in Den Den town. Will post about my purchases latr.

Wao playing Oni at Taito Nipponbashi. Watching him destroy 20000BP players so easily is as if he's playing a different game.

Yay Kumamoto! My favourite town in Japan. You can find touristy pictures from my trip last year by searching my blog.

Best rated Kumamoto ramen according to tabelog.

I found the garlic taste way too strong. Should have ordered ramen with egg.

 Mozu!

I think it was called Kinryu. Been here before and it was ok. Barikata doesn't feel kata at all.

Karaage set at Yayoikan which is open 24/7.

I think the shop is pronounced denden. 伝でん。

View from hotel.

Went to izakaya for some basashi aka horse meat.

The group of bars I used to go to now charge a 10% 'tax' and 200円 per song. Plus their DAM is old.

Found this bar with no tax, no karaoke charge and updated songs. It didn't have Sasahawa Miwa's 続く though.

Next door is the live event for BiS, an indie idol group.

I went super early so I could line up near the front for goods.

The BiS goods line.

Lining up according to numbers. I was no. 118. ☺
Its a crime how not famous Sambomaster are but thanks to that, they play at live houses where any place has a good view because its so small. I think there were around 300+ people.

The end of the queue to get in. At thw ens I lost my voice, was drenched in sweat and was wondering how the singer can keep going?

Towel. Sambomaster is one of those rare bands where I love their new stuff, old stuff and really old stuff.

But why the fuck can't they make a cool t-shirt? Scandal t-shirts are cool but they don't have XL size.

Sambomaster sang their new song Aishiteru aishitetai which was meh. They sang the acoustic version of a song I never heard of and I forgot the name of the song.

They also sang Aitakute which I love and I don't think they sang it at last years's tour and the highlight of the night was one of my favourite old songs Anata to ikitai as the last one. That was the one song that I felt was missing from the live I went to in November last year.

I just need to go to a live in Fukushima to hear them sing I love, I need you Fukushima.

Shishamo! I really like Boku ni kanojo ga dekitanda.

Ichiryu next to Nakasu. Double charsiumen. Yum.

I had looked up a reasonably priced bar before I came. Umfortunately it was no longer there and the blog was last updated early last year.

Eveything in Nakasu was Tokyo level expensive. Saw this girl with a sign saying 2000円 an hour. Asked if there was a tax? No. Service charge? 1500円 an hour. Karaoke charge?  2000円 per song.

I know Fukuola girls juat demolish Tokyo in terms of looks but that's the 3 times the price of Kumamoto which is only 40 minutes away.

8.45pm I took the shinkansen from Fukuoka to Kumamoto and arrived at 9.30. Took another half hour from Kumamoto station o town center.

Went to Tengaiten.

I consider it the best Kumamoto ramen for me.
After that it was drinking all the way to 5.15. Met this dude and Mai-chan at Juju last time and we met up again at Sweet.

Walking to Kumamoto station at 5.40. Took the first shinkansen back to Fukuoka and feel asleep smelling of alcohol and cigarretes.

Woke up at 11am and took the train to Hainuzuka to meet a friend.

Drove to Yanagawa for some udon.

Not bad but I'm still a ramen guy.

Later we had ice cream and then went to an onsen at Kurume.....

and then ramen with gyoza and beer at Kurume. Had a very fun time except the fighting over paying the bill. Best way to combat the Japanese insisting to pay for you is to grab the bill run to the cashier and if they insist just say they can pay the coins part. Great time and its fun to catch up with old friends.

Taking the shinkansen back to Fukuoka. I am going to miss Kyushu so much.

Japan Day 17 : Temmabashi

Wanted to catch up with Yukimi when I was in Osaka for the Madoka exhibition but the timing was off so I had to reschedule
one more trip to Osaka, specifically to Temmabashi cause she's working there with Megumi tonight. Really wanted to meet Yuka but she's got health problems and had to quit. :(

And Temmabashi is also where the Capcom Hq is! Unfortunately, there is nothing for visitors to do there except take pictures of two Senoku Basara characters and two mascots.

You can see two OLs in the picture bowing to someone, perhaps Ono-san on their way out. If I had run into Ono, I wold have asked why Capcom couldn't afford to renovate the stages in Ultra copy n paste fighter 4.

Temmabashi is pretty boring with the highlight being Keihan City Mall. Some expensive but interesting and expensive food here including kuro beef from Kagoshima.

Bloody raining whole day.

Matsuya double karubi for lunch.

Was regretting Matsuya after I saw shitenou but Yumiko says its crap. Name is very familiar. I might have eaten it at another branch somewhere perhaps.

I stayed till the end since this was my only day. Megumi was completely off her face.

Take two. Air's Clover is actually cheaper by 300円 per hour compared to Gift so I was happy. Temmabashi isn't as interesting as Fukushima-ku but its only two stops from Higashi Umeda. I highly recommend it. Just enter エイアーズクーローハー into tabelog.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the big news in Japan now is the AKB attack and Aska drug charges with the media covering them from every conceivable angle again and again. How about some world news, Japan?

Jmovie review : Saikin, imouto no yousu ga chouto okashindaga.

Went to Ikebukuro Cinema Rosa to watch this 15+ movie. Never saw the anime caused it looked so generic. Anyways, Mitsuki's mom remarries and she gets your generic anime hero as a brother.

The plot in Imouto okashi is this see-through negligee wearing ghost Hiyori appears and has a thing for Mitsuki's new stepbrother as well as being able to possess Mitsuki's body.

Sounds like a movie full of fanservice and comedy hijinks right? Sure its got lots of nudity and female on female ghost action but those are far and few between.

At its core, Imouto okashi wants to be this serious drama but absolutely fails in the directing department while dissappointing people like me who went for ecchi comedy. One dude even feel asleep halfway!

The acting is so bad especially the water fight scene. Imouto okashi wants to be more than juat fanservice fluff but in the end it ended up doing nothing. It takes itself too seriously  and doesn't seem fun.

The one thing that got me excited was the trailer of Iron Maiden. The three minute trailer had more excitement than the whole Imouto okashi movie. Too bad it comes out in July. : (

When I was buying the ticket I was reading the title from the poster and somehow my brain froze after saikin. I was thinking what's sister in Japanese again and somehow the only word in my brain was ane. The ticket girl probably thought I was too nervous. lol.

Don't waste your time. There are a lot better pinkus out there.

I was thinking of going to Odaiba just for Tanaka Shoten and hesitating over how the cost of travel will push the price to 2000円 when I decided to check the website.

Lo and behold there's a Tanaka Soba in Akiba. Ordered charsiu soba omori which cost like 1100円. Old lady didn't ask any questions and then I saw the koteri sign aka thick soup after I sat down.

I had no idea about soba and asked whether I could choose how hard it was and elected for barikata. Unfortunately soba is not ramen and tasted just meh. Wtf not open a ramen branch ffs.

Went to Asagaya anime street and there's nothing much there. I like Asagaya though. Feels like a showa town. Should have taken pictures of the town.

There are only like 10 shops and there's not much to buy. Asagaya is only 3 stops away from Nakano so they better give people more reasons to go there.

Softmap in Akiba. I am seriously running out of space to put my figures.

Went to Ogikubo which is on the chuo line just past Asagaya...

to try Haruyaki which is under renovation until tomorrow. I believe it was one of the ramen shops used in Tanpopo.

Random crappy hakata ramen at ikebukuro. Don't feel like trying new shops.

Legend of Galactic Heroes!!!!!!! Only 8 volumes? I remember reading there were two manga adaptations, a shoujo still one and a regular one.

Naked Abe Hiroshi.

Loddoss! Ah, the memories.

Went to Wald 9 with the intention of killing time before dinner with X-Men but tickets were sold out.

Went to Shinjuku Piccadilly and it was full of people and only front row seats were available for 3pm Patlabor showing. They didn't have XL t-shirts at on sale at at the cinema and they needed to bw ordered from the website. Ggrrr.

I was wondering why everyone was sitting on the left side. I don't like the Hayabusa stick aa it feela too loose. Its sanwa all the way for me. Come on Capcom, patch the arcade version already. I'm sick of dealing with Dhalsim's two hit s.mk.

Went back to sleep for two hours as it was friggin hot and came back to Shinjuku to catch up with a friend.

Assorted kushi katsu.

Can't remember the stick thing on the right but it was crap.

Mano Erina as Ling Xiaoyu card. This is staying in my wallet forever. : )

One of those carry those things and go washoi processions in Asakusabashi.

Anyway, went to Piccadilly Shinjuku to watch chapter 2 of Patlabor which consists of episodes 2 and 3.

I should have watched chapter one but can't be stuffed buying the dvd. Actually I'm not sure if its on sale yet. For those worried about the movies be assured that its really a comedy like the original series with a bit more slapstick.

Episode 2 is about them trying to fix the labours in time for an inspection by police chief. Episode 3 is about Mano Erina trying to beat to bald dude from Shall We Dance in Tekken. Episode 2 was a bit slow and some gags were hit and miss and ep 3 is a lot funnier.

Ep 4 is going to be about them being involved in a hostage situation and ep 5 is about a sea monster. Since this is a new cast of characters, the chemistry is a bit different though the new characters echo the old ones like the foreign girl and the rough second pilot.

New Mahoro Ekimae movie coming in October.

Sweet Poolside is a teen movie about dude who helps this hairy girl shave. Hhmm.

Dinner at gyukaku. Might be my second or third time. Not bad but the best yakiniku I've ever had was in Kurume/Yanagawa where ever it was last year. Should have ordered more horumon. Can't wait for Ultra Copy n Paste fighter 1.1 patch for new Abel combo.

First off, thank you Bryan Singer for erasing X3. I wish Nolan would do that for TDKR and Lucasfilm could wipe Eps 1-3 storyline wise. The only thing I want to see from the X-Men movies is for them to do justice to Cyclops. I think the next movie, Apocalypse is going with the First Class bunch though. As long as it isn't Wolverine and his cameo friends, I am in.

In Japan, they do not sell the 3D glasses. I askes the ticket girl how much for the 3D glasses and she gave me a look saying I just pick them up from the theatre entrance. Was given a pair at the entrance and there is a return box as you exit. I should have brought my glasses from Australia. I'm pretty sure the return rate of the 3D glasses is 99.9% in Japan.

Went to Ichigen in Shinjuku that someone recommended in the comments but they did not have tonkotsu, only shio, miso and shouyu with three levels of soup strength. I don't dislike it but soba is better as zarusoba or yakisoba for me. Interestingly, the place is just across the road from Musashi ramen. Thanks for the recommendation. Ichigen has a rating of 3.56 on tabelog which is very high so lots of people Japanese must like it.

The 1.01 update for Ultra SF4 just came out today in the arcades so off to Ikebukuro Jumbo Safari I went;  the only place I know where playing vs cpu is set to 5 rounds. Spent whole day testing out Cammy cut n paste I mean Decapre and practising Abel's new combo. One credit can last half and hour cause I always bring to the fifth rouns and there weren't many challengers.

Tried out Tokyo Tonkotsu Base. Rating on tabelog was only 3 so didn't expect much. I was very tired and juat wanted the closest tonkotsu ramen place. They didn't have barikata noodles and it tasted meh. Soup was not bad.

I might have taken this picture before.

I might be already dead.

AKB election ticket thingie. They were checking the bags of dudes lining up so I assume a handshake thing was going to happen.

Furyu have opened a second store in Akihabara. You can see free kaedama right next to the name.

Goodby Coco Ichi tejikomi chicken katsu

The hand made chicken katsu from Coco Ichi was only availabe until the end of May. It was so much better than regular katsu curry that it should be a regular menu staple just like hot and spicy should be for KFC.

I loved it so much that I was eating it every other day. No idea why being tejikomi makes it taste better but it was crispier and the meat juicier. Not saying its close to Tonta in Takadanobaba's level but Coco Ichi is everywhere.

Now they've replaced the tejikomi chicken katsu with the sasami katsu which is lean breast meat. Lean meat doesn't taste as good as fatty and juicy meat.

Oh, and the above picture is the chicken zanmai which is chicken curry heaven. So goodbye tejikomi chicken katsu. May we meet again amd your replacement sasami katsu isn't as good.

Berserk merchandise : Young Guts figure and Behelits!

This is THE figure find for me so far this trip.
Found it at book off opposite Yodobashi Akiba.
It didn't have a box but by the five god hands, it looks absolutely magnificant and cost only 4500 yen.

Berserk is a niche series so figures are hard to come by. You can find a young Guts and Casca figma everywhere and a giant Guts figure with real clothes but they don't look good.

The best Berserk figures are by Art of War but I can't find those figures anymore. Berserk fans are very unlikely to sell their stuff.
Ominous packaging withe the Berserk logo.

And two behelits! I should have bought this years ago but I'm happy I managed to find a pair. Hmmm. Who shall I sacrifice.

My only complaint is the ropes are too short.

Yup, that small Zod special figure from the P2 game is selling for 26280円!

I was racking my brain staring at this thinking wtf is a ドラゴン二3L (dragon 23L) and it took my a few minutes to realise it was ドラゴンころし(dragon killer). As much as I love Berserk, not spending $200 on just the sword.

Jmovie review : Bokutachi no kazoku

$
0
0

So I was looking around for other Japanese movies to watch. There's the Fujiwara Tatsuya movie Monsterz but ikemen thrillers aren't usually good. There's Wood Chuck starring the dude from Minna! Esper Dayo! and Wald9 had one show everyday with Japanese subtitles! However Masami is in it and I'm sick of the fact that her acting will not improve.

I can't complain that all her rolea are usually in her comfort zone but Bushin showed that she can't rise to the occasion.

There is one movie being showed at Toho cinemas but only (as far as I know) and that is Ishii Yuya's Bokutachi no Kazoku. Who is Ishii Yuya? He's the lucky fucker who married Mitsushima Hikari and he also directed Sawako Decides and The Great Passage. So off to Toho cinema in Kinshicho I went.

Bokutachi no kazoku on the surface sounds like a boring tv soap. Mom starts to forget things and the family of four need to learn to deal with mom's illness. At the end of the screening I thought, "Wow, that is such a simple story but the execution and the acting is just superb".

Bokutachi no kazoku feels less than a family movie and more about well developed characters. The mother's forgetfullness turns into a great storylime tool as the family's past issues slowly come to life. Its one of the movies where no one is a caricature and first impressions are always wrong.

Tsumabuki Satoshi does great work as the older son and he does a great job conveying the great weight that is on his character's shoulders. Shingai from Mozu absolutely steals the movie as the younger son. All I can say about his performance is wow. Even Nagatsuka Kyozo looks like he's awake when it seema like he's sleepwalking through his dorama rolls. Hada Mieko looks like she's having a blast playing the mother.

This is jmovies at its finest. Simple but beautiful and saying a lot with less words. Absolutely must watch. Japanese should be flocking to Bokutachi no kazoku instead of the boring Thermae Romae 2.

Edit : I am sick of the song from Frozen/Anna to yuki no jyouou, Sono Mama being played everywhere I go. Must resist subliminal message to watch it....

Mano Erina concert 2014 Again~ Live House de moetsukiyou! at Zepp Diver City

OMFG. Mano Erina concert with live band and on top of that 3 acoustic performances. I am still on a freaking high.

Let's start from the beginning. Went to her 2nd last show last year, thought I would never hear Mano Erina sing live again ever.

My original plan was to go Japan in March. I had alreay booked time off even before my last trip. Through much internal debate, I moved the trip to April and then May. Two months before the trip, I find out Mano Erina was having a concert right after my trip. Without hesitation I changed my flight and bframe managed to get me tickets for me amd himself.

Yup, bframe came up from Mie for Mano Erina.
Yup, you read it right. The flowers are from Kentucky-san and it is Mano Erina's first CM job! She's been around for 5 years and this is her first CM job?

The concert started out with a few songs I was unfamilar but the live band makesa lot of difference. Mano Erina looks like a billion yen and her hair is much longer compared to in Patlabor.

View from our seats at Zepp Diver City. It was a pretty decent view.

The SharanQ keyboard dude Taisei was the director and keyboard person. The only bad thing about the concert was the 15 minute KFC Krushers skit between Taisei and Mano Erina. Small price to pay for Mano Erina's first CM.

The first memorable performance that comes to mind was Mano Erina's cover of Nacchi's Iki o Kasanemasho. I remember thinking is a live band so much better or is her singing much improved?

A lot of songs have different arrangementa and its like listening to new songs. Unfortunately no RararaSososo and Otome no Inori which should be compulsory at every live.

Everyone received a Mano pass. I'm happy that Sekai wa Summer Party and Dare ni mo iwanai weren't dumped into the medley section.

Basically until end of August this pass can be used to get 100円 off amy KFC Krusher. If I lived in Japan, I would be using it everyday to support Mano-chan. So the resposibility falls on bframe to visit Kentucky everyday.

The 3 acustic performances were sublime. The first song was Oyasumi. Can't remember the other two. You could tell she's nervous but she passed with flying colours.

The first half of My Days for You was just Mano Erina singing with the second keyboard dude playing. I had goosebumps all over. They better be taping the second show and releasing it as a DVD cauae all the livw performances sound a lot better than the CDs. Bases on what I've seen in this concert, Mano Erina would kill it with juat her and a piano singing all her songs.

So happy Mano Erina finally has a shirt that I can wear in public. Last song qas of course Next Myself and the beat part was of course singing the next myself bit.

Mano Erina has taken the next step to being a better singer which is surprising because of all the acting she has been doing. I really hope she will continue performing because she can only get better and I had such an awesome time.

Songlist taken from upfront life and and pictures stolen from barks.jp. No matter how much I think back to the concert, I can't hear the great performances until they release the dvd. :(

1. Seishun no seranade - Staple song from all her concerts. I don't hate it but I don't love it.

2. 10 Carat no kirameki - Didn't recognise this song. She's never sung it at a concert before and its not in my regular Mano Erina playlist.

3. Aozora ga waratteru - Another b-side single I do not know.

4. Zenbu Daisuki - At this point I'm thinking is she singing other Hello Project songs? I'm pretty sure she hasn't released any new songs.

5. Gomen hanashitakattakedo  - I knew this was a Mano Erina song but I was thinking is this going to be a concert full of Mano Erina songs I don't know?

6. Ambitious! - Already heard watching chapter 2 of the Patlabor movie.

7. Mano Piano - So sad that there was only one piano song. The piano part seemed more complicated than usual. I was holding my breath thinking, don't fuck up lol. bframe wanted to hear lalalasososo.

Then we got the very long KFC commercial and yes, Taisei tasted all four flavours. Reading the recaps made me remember Mano Erina also did the yurushite nyan! Then it was band member introduction time with each member saying what their favourite food was.

8. Oyasumi nasai - The first acoustic song. I was blown away.

9. Iki wo kasanemashou - Sounded better than Nacchi's cd version. I was surprised she did the high parts well. Everyone was swaying with the song.

10. Hana kotoba - Mano Erina's acoustic performance completely destroys the cd version which sounds so boring in comparison.

11. Dare ni mo iwanaide - Love this song. Right amount of sexy and cute. I wasn't happy with the huge amount of talking *cough* Scandal *cough* but I think it was before this song when she says we were at the halfway point and I thought, "Yes that means we've got a lot of songs to go!" The second half was basically non-stop singing which is what I want in my concerts.

12. Onegai dakara

13. Medley - Doki doki baby, Junjou keisatsu KISS, 21 Seikiteki renai jijou, Lucky Aura, Hajime no Keiken, Song for the date. She should have taken out Junju keisatsu and Song for the date or even the B sides from the beginning.

14. Ambitious girls.

15. Glory Days - Meh

16. Sekai wa Summer Party! - Yes, I love this song!

17. Banzai! - I hated this song when it first came out. I thought it was trying to hard to be another chant along song like Genki mono de ikou but now I think doing the banzai, banzai, rakky, rakky is so fun and of course, towel waving. Taisei was dancing along during the two songs imitating the girls and doing a funny job at it.

18. Genki mono de ikou - The chant and dance along salaryman song. Icchyaina, icchyaina, itaikoto icchyaina! Too bad she didn't do the extra long version she did at previous concerts.

19. Seishun no seranade.

20. My Days for You - My favourite Mano Erina song and her singing the first half accompanied by only a keyboard was amazing. This was the goosebumps and something in my eye song. Need concert dvd so I can rip this performance.

21. Next Myself - Her final HP! single. Fans singing the refrain just makes it perfect.

Went to Hakata Ramen Barikote south of Nakano Station. Barikote means very thick soup in Hakataben and its got 3.64 stars on tabelog which is very high. It takes about 15 minutes walk from the South exit of Nakano Eki.

Ordered the zenbuiri and... it was ok. Tonkotsu Ogi, my favourite scores 3.53 on Tabelog. Speaking of Ogi, my last meal there on Friday night, the chasiu was super duper juicy and the ramen dude was beaming when I told him. Too bad it was closed on Sunday.

Ramen Ichizu at Kinshichou after watching Bokutachi no Kazoku. Rated 3.52 on tabelog.

It is exactly the same as Ichiryu in Kumamoto which is ok but I won't go out of my way to eat here.

Some vote buying national kyabakura ceremony going on Saturday night but I didn't have time to watch....

Tanaka Shoten at Odaiba and it tasted nothing like it did last time. Maybe the fact that it was weekend and Odaiba was full of people had something to do with it.

Jmovie review: Like father, Like Son / Soshite chichi ni naru

$

I have been waiting for this movie for a long time after Koreeda Hirokazu's overly long Going My Home. Like Father, Like Son is a movie about two families whose children were switched at birth featuring a great cast of Machiko Ono, Yoko Maki and Lily Franky. Even Fukuyama Masaharu is perfectly cast as the successful father with his stiff acting.

If you're familiar with Koreeda movies, you know what to expect; the movie never gets too high or low but every single scene draws you in and sometimes one single sentence speaks volumes but Koreeda never milks any moment more than necessary.

Koreeda frames his shots so beautifully, its like watching someone painting on canvas and they way he captures that slight twitch, slight look of understanding and makes the viewer fell the emotion without the slighest overdramatisation is incredible.

Like Father, Like Son is a movie that explores not just themes of nurture vs nature but also uses the unique premise to talk about things like how to raise a child, whether empathy is a weakness and what makes a family. Absolutely brilliant family and character dorama.

My only complaint would be the English title which has a completely different meaning from the Japanese title which is a better description of the movie as the story is seen from the viewpoint of Fukuyama Masaharu's character.. Must watch movie and if Koreeda goes back to doramas, it better be 5 episodes at most.

Mozu season 1 eps 3-10

$
0
0

Miharu-Rush's subs are up to episode 8 so spoilers for episode 9+10 will be white-outed. I went into Mozu with high hopes and its been mixed for me but one thing's for certain, Mozu season 1 has been sponsored by all cigarette companies since we don't see any brands. They smoke so much that I don't even feel like having a cigarette after wacthing.

WHAT I LIKED

+ The effort. They really wanted to do hard boiled cop action drama that doesn't end up in an abandoned warehouse. Can't fault them for that.

+ Chase sequence in ep 5. Not superb but not bad. Its something you see a lot in Hong Kong movies but its something you don't see in Japanese doramas/movies. I'm guessing shooting in public in Japan is a lot more expensive than in HK. I really like Yoshida Kotaro as the overacting bad guy. The only thing I didn't like was the punch by Kagawa Teruyuki that sent the baddie spinning onto the car boot as if Kagawa were a sentai ranger.

+ Shingai turned out to be the most interesting character in the show.

+ Kagawa Teruyuki daughter episode. A character episode that did more show than tell.

+ Moody and nicely framed camera shots.

+ The previews never failed to excite me.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE

- Too much posturing, brooding and repeating the same thing over and over again by our main character Kuraki and not enough detective work. Kuraki is a character haunted by his past but the script is just not good enough.

- Too much telling and not showing. For example, Maki Yoko's dad's storyline. Every once in a while, some character will mention it as if to say, "Please keep this in the back of your mind for season 2" when they haven't exactly given me a reason to care. Let's not forget Kagawa Teruyuki reminding the audience how much he hates Public Security.

- Hiromi got shot multiple times, got stabbed through his heart by a gigantic spear and somehow managed to extricate his body from the spear and walk all the way through the sewer? They never explained Kazuhiko's black eye super power but that's tough to buy. So is Kazuhiko going to be as good a killer as Hiromi in season 2? Are they going to pull a Hiromi was actually Kazuhiko thinking he was Hiromi?

- We have to wait for season 2 for the daruma and glarke alpha, two things I have a hard time imagining a satisfying explanation.

SUMMARY

Good try but Mozu season 1 didn't reach must watch status. The action is there, the directing is there but the script is not polished enough. I'm still looking forward to season 2 though and am keeping my expectation lower this time. Its just unfortunate WOWOW doesn't have Japanese subs.

I've been told that Nishijima Hitedoshi is pretty popular with the ladies in Japan and I saw lots of advertisements of him selling refrigerators which explains the topless scene with Maki Yoko even though all the blood was coming from his head.

Final Fantasy tactics! My favourite FF game ever.

Found this at a retro game shop in Nipponbashi.

Sonic! Software Planning dudes (now known as Camelot) who made the awesome Shining series. The once proud series has been reduces to Tony Taka art and crap gameplay. Unfortunately, they been doing Mario Tennis and Mario Golf instead of RPGs.

How come I never played this game on the Saturn before?

Collection of essays by Nagoshi Toshihiro, producer of the Ryu ga Gotoku series, back when he looked like a human being. Google his current pictures at your own risk.

Wasn't sure I wanted this book since Ryu ga Gotoku is only talked about in the end but this paragraph gave me a strong feeling of 'I have to read this'.

Arisa from God Eater Burst and I've never played the game.

I just had to buy it. Normally I avoid any figures that stand on one leg cause they will eventually fall but its got support for the sword.

Tempted to buy the game on my Vita to see her story and at 1900円, its not going to get much cheaper. Not a fan of MonHun games in general though.

The foot's got two pegs so I'm not worried about it getting loose.

Very nice back view.

Shingeki no Kyoujin jacket. Not a fan of the manga but I like the design.

Didn't get this from Japan but Ao no Kiseki Eolution was released on Thursday and I just got it.

Fully voiced RPG so I don't have to pay too much attention to reading. If only the Sen no Kiseki series were fully voiced. Its going to be hard to go back to a battle system that's not as exciting. Sorry Grandia, I'm too lazy to read and am going to have to put you on the backburner.

Yamikin Ushijima-kun Seasons 1 and 2

Can't believe I watched two seasons of Ushijima-kun in two days! I started watching Sunday night and overslept because it became a case of just watch one episode over and over. Yamikin Ushijima-kun is a story about this loan shark Ushijima played by Yamada Takayuki in his easiest acting role yet. All he has to do is just recite his lines with an expressionless face.

What I like about this loan shark dorama is that its not a fairytale story and has a touch of dark comedy. Its a show that delves into the lives of the desperate. People who are addicted on gambling or want to get rich quickly or work in the water business. You'd have to be pretty desperate to borrow money at 50% interest payable in 10 days.

I believe that's Kasumi Risa on the right.

I really liked Katase Nana as the newbie in the first season. Newbies are often used just to explain things to the audience and be their point of view but I find that making her someone who is smart and not so idealistic really brings a lot to the series. Plus, she has an interesting back story that should have been explored more and provides a lot of humour.

The stories are about Ushijima-kun's clients and are very interesting and things somehow get connected together in the end. Season 1 has pretty good pacing while season 2 just drags its feet because the multiple stories take all 9 episodes to resolve themselves. Season 1 for me was a very watchable show while season 2 just dragged especially with the fashion character's story that just dragged. The lack of Katase Nana's character also hurt season 2 IMO.

Kizaki Jessica!!!!!

If you're after a darker, cynical dorama, I recommend the first season of Yamikin Ushijima-kun. It was a fun, breezy 9 episodes for me while I only finished the second season to see how things would end. Did I mention that there are a couple of JAV actresses in this series? :)

On an unrelated note, No Con Kid is being subbed into English by Akhora. I highly recommend it if you love retro gaming. It was one of my favourite shows from last year but it was such a good year that No Con Kid couldn't make it into my top 5.

That girl in the white jacket looks a lot like Amami Tsubasa. :)
